Restaurant Business Partners lead multi-million-dollar businesses. These Restaurant Business Partner run their restaurants like it is their own business and in return Whataburger rewards them handsomely by giving them an employee incentive equal to a percentage of the restaurant’s net profit.

Restaurant Business Partners must be able to focus on the big picture, have a competitive drive, and continually demonstrate the ability to achieve performance results through inspiring their teams.

The Restaurant Business Partners leads all aspects of their designated restaurant’s business, creates business plans to grows sales, inspires their team to reach their full potential, upholds the brand standards, and ensures their restaurant is fully staffed, clean, and consistent so that our Family Members and guests have an elevated Whataburger experience.

They own the culture and create moments inside the restaurant that make our Family Members and guests smile by celebrating important life milestones, no matter how big or small.

Leadership Responsibilities:


Ownership Mentality  

  • Leads restaurant with a growth mindset and a big picture mentality. Sees challenges as opportunities and is relentlessly focused on achieving results through inspiring others and being action-oriented to drive the right behaviors to grow profitable sales.
  • Acts with a sense of urgency and takes calculated risks to obtain positive results; leverages business autonomy to get results.
  • Upholds all food safety policies, procedures, tools, and systems by setting and training the expectation as the standard bearer and creating a safe work environment.
  • Builds relationships in the community to grow the business and recruit Family Members. An ambassador for the brand that is well known and highly active in their community.
  • Devises and upholds a hospitality mindset, resulting in a welcoming environment and enhancing the customer experience – every customer, every time.
  • Drives revenue and achieves or exceeds profit goals without sacrificing standards or short sighting the business.
  • Analyzes business performance, develops financial plans, and is accountable for financial targets.
  • Creates the Family Member experience by engaging with Family Members, building trust, and providing an inclusive environment.
  • Advances business results as someone vested in the success of the restaurant and brand.

Walk the Talk     

  • Leads the business and operations, motivates, and gains the commitment from Family Members by reinforcing team behaviors consistent with Whataburger Core Values and Guiding Principles; inspires people and celebrates the team.
  • Builds relationships and confidence with Family Members, customers, vendors, and the community at large.
  • Creates and fosters relationships through open and honest communications, coaching, and engagement.

  • Orchestrates success and minimizes failures; Single-handedly accountable for the restaurant’s growth.

Create Leaders

  • Motivates, mentors, trains, and engages other Family Members in an enthusiastic manner.
  • Cultivates talent internally for the brand and provides ongoing development of Family Members.
  • Builds multipliers committed to the success of the brand.
  • Continuously challenges Family Members to maximize their potential through stretch assignments and growing their skills and capabilities.

  • Collaborates with other Restaurant Business Partners  including, but limited to sharing best practices, individual perspectives, and supporting others.
  • Acts as a brand ambassador and grows their restaurant business outside the 4 walls and into the community.
  • Acts with a sense of urgency and delegates responsibility to ensure the adoption and consistent execution of all change initiatives, to include new products, systems, company campaigns and strategies.
  • Facilitates discussions among Family Members and Managers to ensure expectations are clear, share best practices, address underperforming areas, and resolves open questions.

Strategy

  • Initiates and sets the standards around a common vision, realistic expectations, and celebrating successes.
  • Looks broadly at an issue before deciding. Implements practical, timely solutions and exercises innovation and creativity. 
  • Designs and implements the annual business strategy, including but not limited to steps to accomplish the plan. Sets performance target, establishes goals and measures progress along the way. Plans for self, individual and team professional development.
  • Stays connected and current on the macro and micro- environments to understand outside influences and the unique opportunities of their restaurant and community.
  • Recognizes when customer preferences are changing and adjusts service delivery focus to meet customer demands.

REQUIREMENTS: Typical minimum requirements to perform the job.

Age 

  • Must be at least 21 years of age

Education 

  • Bachelor’s degree or at least 4 years equivalent, progressive work experience is required

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities 

  • Advanced financial acumen; advanced understanding of budgetary concepts and procedures 
  • Proficiency in MS Office Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams and PowerPoint
  • Strong knowledge of working practices, procedures, and techniques 
  • Intermediate to advanced ability to delegate projects and get work done through others 
  • Intermediate ability to prepare and present ideas and recommendations to colleagues, managers, and direct reports with ample notice and preparation

License/ Certification Requirements 

  • Food Safety Certification (may vary based on city, county, and state requirements) 
  • Food Handler’s Certification 

Working Conditions/Travel Requirements 

  • Must be able to work a full-time schedule and be able to work all shifts based on operational needs of the restaurant 
  • Resides in the locality of the restaurant (within 30 miles of the restaurant)
  • Must be able to frequently travel  locally (and occasionally travel long distances, including air travel as needed) to work sites, meeting sites, and other locations 
  • Working conditions exist to satisfactorily fulfill job responsibilities 

Other Requirements 

  • Satisfactorily meet background and reference requirements.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license, submit to releasing a Motor Vehicle Record Check that adheres to the Whataburger standards, and maintain current automobile liability at minimum levels in state of residence 
  • No conflicting business ownership interests 

Physical Requirements 

  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. on occasion 
  • Must be able to stand during long periods of time 
  • Must be able to reach, bend, stoop, lift, shake, stir, pour, carry, and push on occasion 
  • Must be able to read (orders on tickets, menu board, receipts, etc.) 
  • Frequent contact/immersion of hands in water, cleaning and sanitation solutions, meat products, poultry products, seafood, and produce items 
  • Frequent washing of hands 
  • Must be able to use computers, telephones, headsets, and other office and restaurant equipment
